Using Aboriginal participatory action research within a mixed methods study exploring COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Aboriginal women: a methodological framework for co-design

The COVID-19 pandemic evidenced the critical role of vaccination in reducing the severity of illness and the risk of infection. Despite the policies and efforts of governments to increase vaccination uptake, COVID-19 immunization among Australian Aboriginal pregnant women is lower compared to vaccine uptake of non-Indigenous pregnant women.

Early rheumatic heart disease is a recognized intermediate on the pathway to advanced rheumatic heart disease

Rheumatic heart disease is a major cause of premature cardiovascular morbidity and mortality globally. Over the past decade, echocardiographic screening has changed our understanding of the natural history of RHD, revealing a high burden of clinically silent, mild RHD among people who cannot recall a history of preceding acute rheumatic fever. This viewpoint outlines the evidence that this earliest form of rheumatic heart disease, only detectable through echocardiographic screening, is an intermediate stage that many, but not all, individuals may pass through on the pathway to advanced rheumatic heart disease.

Trends and indications for cesarean section in the ORIGINS birth cohort

Cesarean section (CS) rates have increased substantially in Australia, with particularly high use observed in private maternity care and for pre-labor CS. The aim of the present study was to describe the CS rates and the clinical indications for pre-labor CS in the ORIGINS birth cohort.

Toxicity of plastic diesel exhaust in primary human airway epithelial cell cultures

Plastic pyrolysis oil, which can be produced with similar properties as diesel fuel (plastic diesel), can be used as an alternative to mineral diesel (ULSD) to run a diesel engine. This presents a potential method for recycling waste plastic. Typically plastic diesel is blended with mineral diesel, and oxygenated fuel additives such as ethers added to improve resulting fuel properties.

Masculine Norm Adherence Among Australian Men: Latent Structure of the CMNI-22 and Its Links With Mental Health Outcomes

Masculine norms influence men's health and wellbeing. In Australia, interest in the role of these masculine norms resulted in an assessment of masculine norm adherence being included in the Ten to Men Study, measured using the 22-item version of the Conformity to Masculine Norms Inventory.

Reduced Prevalence of Impaired Awareness of Hypoglycemia Over Two Decades in Population-Based Samples of Youth With Type 1 Diabetes

To investigate the change in prevalence of impaired awareness of hypoglycemia (IAH) and severe hypoglycemia (SH) across three cohorts (2002, 2015, and 2024) in youth with type 1 diabetes.

Birth prevalence and characterisation of congenital hyperinsulinism in Western Australia over two decades

To describe the birth prevalence and characterise the genotype, phenotype and management of children with congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) in Western Australia (WA).

Advancing equity: six-year respiratory outcomes in young Indigenous children following early respiratory disease detection

Protracted bacterial bronchitis (PBB), chronic suppurative lung disease (CSLD) and bronchiectasis are parts of a disease spectrum characterised by chronic wet cough (CWC). Untreated PBB can develop into CSLD/bronchiectasis.
