Sunlight, nitric oxide and cardiometabolic dysfunction: exploring beneficial mechanisms

Investigators: Naomi Fleury, Prue Hart, Samantha Teng, Shelley Gorman, Tamara Abel, Tristan Allemann

Project description

Much physical activity takes place outdoors, although we are spending increasing amounts of time doing exercise indoors. This study uses modelling to compare and combine the effects of ongoing exposure to low dose UVR with moderate levels of exercise on the development of type-2 diabetes and weight gain.

In 2017, we conducted a project comparing and combining ongoing exposure to low dose ultraviolet radiation (UVR) with physical activity. This was the Honours project of Tristan Allemann (University of Western Australia), and he received a high first class Honours for this study. It is now published in the Journal of Endocrinology (March 2020).
