Prospective Student Evening 2025
Emma and Kate from The Sibling Project team attended the recent Prospective Student Evening at The Kids to share post-graduate research opportunities with interested students. The Sibling Project team has the capacity to provide supervision to Honours, Masters, and PhD students who have an interest in research that explores the experiences, health, mental health/wellbeing, relationships, and needs of children and young people who have a sibling with developmental disability.
Read more about our student opportunities here.
We also encourage students to reach out if they have a research idea that aligns with our purpose to increase the visibility of siblings, and develop and deliver resources that will support them and their families, so that they grow up with the opportunity to thrive and lead happy, healthy, fulfilling lives.

Drawing Study 2025
Our team uses creative and innovative methods to ensure that all perspectives within the family can be captured and contribute to our research, even the voices of the littlest family members which are often missing. We are very proud of our Drawing Study which invited children as young as four years of age to draw their relationship with their sibling/s. Drawings were then analysed by our research team to reveal important characteristics of the sibling bond.
Please take some time to have a look at the wonderful drawings below created by our research participants.
Draw Your Science competition

Kate was awarded Runner Up and People's Choice at the 2024 Draw Your Science event run by the Early Mid Career Research Council.
Kate’s presentation was titled: “(I want) People to remember I exist and matter”: Supporting the siblings of children with developmental disability”, and as part of the competition she had to communicate her research by drawing it in just 90 seconds.

Sibling Camp 2024
In June 2024, The Sibling Project sponsored the Down Syndrome WA Siblings Camp at Woodman Point. The siblings connected quickly and enjoyed archery, rock climbing, giant Jenga, bocce, and a flying fox. There were lots of laughs, and the siblings had heaps of fun together. Siblings also participated in some research activities. It was a great weekend with an incredible group of young people. ❤️
