Multi-centre, multi-disciplinary study using a systems biology approach to investigate immunomodulation in children with acute wheeze

Team members: Franciska Prastanti, Kim Khoo

Project description

Children who need emergency medical treatment for a wheezing and/or asthma attack, almost always have a respiratory virus that has triggered the attack. We have found that some children do not respond to a viral infection in a normal way. This clinical trial will test whether treatment with lysed bad bacteria can alter that immune response to improve how these children respond to a viral infection and possibly prevent them having to come to hospital with a wheezing or asthma attack again in the year of study.
