Joint Statement: New names reflect growing impact of Telethon and its beneficiaries

By mutual agreement with the Channel 7 Telethon Trust (Telethon), The Kids Research Institute Australia and Telethon Speech and Hearing will both rebrand in 2024.

Telethon has been created by and belongs to the community of Western Australia who over five decades have generously donated more than $605 million to ensure a better life for our children now and in the future. In 2023, Telethon now supports over 100 charity beneficiaries with grant funding, bringing a new need and era for the brand and those associated with it.

By mutual agreement with the Channel 7 Telethon Trust (Telethon), The Kids Research Institute Australia and Telethon Speech and Hearing will both rebrand in 2024.

Both organisations will remove ‘Telethon’ from their names, to reflect the fact that they each operate as independent and separate legal entities, with their own governance, structures, and distinct missions.

This change also reflects contemporary brand and donor recognition practices for charitable/NFP organisations that receive significant financial support from funding bodies such as Telethon.

The use of the Telethon name was separately adopted by The Kids Research Institute Australia and Telethon Speech and Hearing more than 20 years ago in recognition of the significant support provided by Telethon to them as beneficiaries. Since that time, powered by Telethon support, both organisations have grown significantly in reach and impact.

The Kids Research Institute Australia and Telethon Speech and Hearing will continue to be major beneficiaries of Telethon and will acknowledge that support in various ways including stakeholder communications.

The new name and identities for The Kids Research Institute Australia and Telethon Speech and Hearing will be a decision of each organisation’s board and will be announced in 2024.

No donated funds will be used to rebrand.
