Dr Karina Tao is a clinician and researcher audiologist interested in innovation and using information and telecommunication technologies for improving and delivering audiological clinical health care services for children and adults. She completed her PhD at the University of Western Australia in 2020 and developed a series of landmark studies contributing evidence-base to the use of teleaudiology for hearing loss rehabilitation.
New ways for accessing hearing and ear specialist services have become crucial with the global shortage of ear and hearing health services and difficulty of visiting the clinician in a clinic room. She has been helping to investigate the ear and hearing issues and treatment in the community. Also, to investigate new ways for streamlining access to Audiology and ENT services for children referred to Perth Children's Hospital and reduce waiting time for receiving their outpatient appointment.

Djaalinj Waakinj Ear Portal: An ENT and Audiology referral pathway for improving access to ear and hearing services for Aboriginal children in the metropolitan area using telehealth
The Djaalinj Waakinj (Listening, Talking) Ear Portal project commenced in 2020 to evaluate an equitable ear and hearing care pathway for Aboriginal children residing in the metropolitan area of Perth.
