The Kids Research Institute Australia is committed to providing opportunities for community members and health consumers to contribute to our research.
We have a long history of involving community in health and medical research, partnering with The University of Western Australia’s School of Population and Global Health in 2004 to establish the first consumer and community involvement program in Australia.
Since that time, many organisations have developed consumer and community programs, and we work closely with many of them to support consumer and community involvement in health and medical research.
We involve consumers and communities in all areas of our work, from the development of our strategic plan to research program areas and individual projects. Currently over 600 consumers and community members are involved in decision-making activities about research priorities, policy and practice across The Kids. These include:
- Providing advice on planning for involvement activities in grant applications
- Helping to write plain language summaries
- Serving on committees and advisory groups
- Attending forums and workshops
- Developing strategies to disseminate research results
- Advocating for the translation of research into policy and practice.
