Whooping cough (pertussis) vaccination is currently recommended in Australia during every pregnancy, as it is a safe and effective way of protecting young babies from severe Whooping Cough disease. Healthy mums and their babies (6 to 10 weeks of age) are invited to participate, including mothers who received a Pertussis vaccine during pregnancy and those who didn’t. Researchers at Vaccine Trials Group, are conducting the PRIME Study to evaluate if whooping cough vaccination during pregnancy affects the baby’s immune response to their future infant and toddler vaccinations. The study will also investigate how long mothers’ immunity lasts after vaccination in pregnancy. Infants will received all of their routine infant and toddler vaccinations during the study.
