Future Child Health

The greatest threat to children’s health in the future is environmental change, including climate change. The Future Child Health project aims to quantify how current and future environmental changes affect child health.

The Future Child Health project aims to quantify how current and future environmental changes affect child health.

According to the WHO, up to 88% of the existing burden of disease due to climate change occurs in children under 5 years old, in both lower and higher income countries.

Future Child Health‘s mission is to:

  • Drive innovative, world-leading research in climate change and child health
  • Determine which childhood diseases and conditions are affected by climate at different spatial scales
  • Co-design interventions with impacted communities to develop strategies to protect children from the harms of climate change
  • Translate the project's research findings into adaptation strategies and policy
  • Advocate the prioritisation of children in climate change and health policy
  • Embed consumers and the community in all stages of our research
  • Collaborate with a wide network of national and international research leaders and health professionals
  • Develop the next generation of independent researchers
