Alcohol-related harm is a public health issue in Australia, and young people are the most likely group to consume alcohol at levels of high risk and be admitted to hospital for alcohol-related harm.
This project aims to inform harm prevention and minimisation strategies by investigating outcomes and points for early intervention in young people with alcohol-related harm. Researchers will also compare outcomes between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth.
The project will identify alcohol-related presentations and admissions utilising young people's linked emergency department presentations, hospital admissions, and mental health contacts. Researchers aim to investigate any re-admissions or subsequent deaths as well as any involvement with the justice, drug and alcohol, and child protection sectors. This project will also investigate the effect of changes in alcohol availability and policies on alcohol-related harm in young people.
