At The Kids Research Institute Australia, we pride ourselves on conducting research to the highest standards possible, with strong emphasis on the principles of transparency, accountability, integrity and equity.
All of our research is approved through internal processes to ensure it fits with the Institute's overall research vision and strategy. Research also needs to meet strict ethical, privacy and confidentiality standards.
Human Research Ethics
The Kids is committed to the highest standards of ethical practice in research involving or affecting people. To ensure we maintain and develop these high standards, our Code of Conduct for Responsible Practice of Research Policy (Part A/Part B) provides standards of conduct and behaviour for our investigators and researchers.
All research at the institute involving humans must undergo independent scientific and ethical review and approval from the relevant Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), along with all other necessary approvals.
Our research is performed in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 (updated May 2015), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and applicable regulatory and state requirements.
Animal Research Ethics
The Kids is committed to ensuring the ethical, humane and responsible care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
The Institute recognises the value of research involving animals and supports the ethical use of animals for scientific purposes where such use is justified and complies with the WA Animal Welfare Act (2002) and the NHMRC Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes, 8th Edition, 2013.
The Institute has established The Kids Research Institute Australia Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) to ensure, on behalf of the Institute, that all activities involving the care and use of animals comply with the Code and provide for the welfare of those animals.
