Research for kids

Kids aren't mini adults. They are biologically different and deserve research designed specifically for them.

Research built for kids

Kids aren't mini adults. They are biologically different and deserve research designed specifically for them.

That's why we exist - to tackle the greatest health challenges facing children and deliver solutions that change lives.

Because what happens in childhood shapes a lifetime.

OUR RESEARCH THEMES

Focused on the challenges that matter most to kids

First Nations Health and Equity

Closing the gap starts in childhood.

Aboriginal health is everyone's business at The Kids. We work alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to design research that reflects local priorities, strengthens culturally safe care, and helps close the gap in health and wellbeing outcomes for kids and families.

Because lasting change starts with community and grows through partnership.

Chronic Diseases

Better outcomes through earlier diagnosis.

Chronic diseases can affect children's health, development and quality of life for years to come. Too often, conditions are identified late, care is fragmented, and treatments aren't designed specifically for kids. We're working to spot disease sooner, improve treatment earlier, and make care simpler for families.

Because getting it right early means fewer hospital visits, healthier childhoods and better futures.

Infectious Diseases

Protecting kids early pays off for life.

From RSV and Strep A to emerging global health threats, infectious diseases continue to impact millions of children every year. We're developing better ways to prevent, detect and treat infections before they become serious, while ensuring every child has access to the protection and care they need.

Because fewer infections mean more kids growing up healthy, learning, playing and thriving.

Precision Health

Every child deserves answers, not years of uncertainty.

Children with rare or complex conditions often face long waits for answers, and care isn't always designed around their unique needs. We're using genomics, data and advanced technologies to understand each child more deeply, diagnose conditions faster and tailor treatments to their unique needs.

Because the right treatment at the right time can change everything.

Strong Beginnings

The early years mean everything.

The earliest years shape a child's health, learning and wellbeing for decades to come. But too many children face challenges from the very beginning, making it harder to thrive at school, at home and in life. We're focused on identifying risks earlier, supporting families sooner, and creating pathways that help children reach their full potential.

Because when we get it right in the early years, we change the trajectory of a child's entire life.

Wellbeing and Mental Health

Helping kids thrive, not just cope.

Today's kids face pressures previous generations could not have imagined. Loneliness, anxiety, social pressures and digital influences are affecting wellbeing earlier and more often. We're helping young people, families, and communities recognise challenges sooner and build the skills, resilience and support networks children need.

Because supporting mental wellbeing early helps kids thrive throughout childhood and into adulthood.
